Who wants to read the same thing twice? Once your students are good essay writers… These task cards will help your students stay sharp on their five paragraph essay knowledge. It is important to write a rough draft to share with a friend or parent to edit. Also, have students compare and contrast essays with the same scores but from different grades.
When editing, ask someone to check that you stayed on topic and used proper writing conventions, such as good spelling, usage, mechanics and grammar.

Unit 2 — Excellent Expository By the end of the second week, students will be able to write an expository paragraph. Read the commentary and make a list of skills you want to teach your students. I especially like reading the essays in which a quote is used as a closing thought or a powerful statement is used.
What are your students not doing and that they need to be doing? Ask students to write out their three body paragraphs just like they have practiced…Topic sentence…Detail 1…Detail 2…Detail 3…Closing Sentence. You can usually use the essay writing prompt or question to form this sentence.
First, write a topic sentence that summarizes your point. Unit 7 — The Narrative Essay By the end of unit 7, students will be able write a narrative essay.
